Vinkocide® ECO 26

Broad spectrum preservative

Vinkocide® ECO 26 is a formulation of 5-Chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (CIT) /
2-Methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (MIT) with Formaldehyde.

Area of use

Vinkocide® ECO 26 is used to preserve water-based and water-dilutable chemical/technical products as in-can preservatives, protective media for liquids in cooling and processing systems, slimicides and protective media for fluids used in metalworking. Vinkocide® ECO 26 is also recommended for private and public area disinfectants and other biocidal products. This biocide formulation has a broad antimicrobial spectrum of activity against bacteria, fungi and yeasts and can be used in many cases where other preservatives fail. It is very effective against gram-negative bacteria.

Product properties

Vinkocide® ECO 26 contains a formaldehyde releaser and therefore gives good headspace protection in all types of in-can preservation. It is free of organic solvents. Vinkocide® ECO 26 is cost effective due to low use levels and combines outstanding long-term effectiveness with the rapid mode of action of CIT/MIT.


Vinkocide® ECO 26 penetrates the cells of the microorganisms and reacts with vital cell elements in order to inactivate important substrates and enzymes that are essential for the function of the cell. These relatively non-specific reactions prevent adaptation and resistance phenomena and cause the microorganisms to die. It also prevents the microbial decay of products and the resulting processes such as phase separation, unpleasant odours, gas formation, changes in viscosity and the formation of harmful toxins.
